A Trust Fund Victims Can't Trust

Susan Rindfleisch’s story

Collins, New York. Imagine if each and every time you did your husband’s laundry, you were taking poison into your body that would affect your ability to work, to live, to be a mother to your children.

Susan’s husband, Warren, a trucker, came home from work from 1984 to 1990 with asbestos dust on the work clothes Susan would wash for him.

Susan, 40-year-old mother of four children, was diagnosed on May 27, 2004, with mesothelioma, a terminal cancer caused only by asbestos.
Now, on a daily basis, Susan experiences pain, nausea, and fatigue. Before her mesothelioma manifested itself, Susan was employed and enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, such as taking walks, swimming, riding bicycles, shopping, and playing with her children.

That life is gone. Because of the debilitating nature of the disease, Susan cannot and will never again be able to enjoy life as she once did.

How would the asbestos bailout bill hurt Susan’s family?

Susan’s case is pending in Erie County State Supreme Court, Eighth Judicial District Asbestos Litigation. If the asbestos bill is enacted, this family will be forced to begin the claims process again under the asbestos trust fund and wait even longer to receive compensation to help cover Susan’s medical costs and care for her children.
