Trial Advocacy Scholarship 

 The 2012 Trial Advocacy Scholarship was awarded to Shawna Boothe. Shawna received her Bachelor's of Arts in Mathematics and Philosophy from the University of Saint Thomas in Houston, Texas and is currently a rising third year law student at the University of Illinois College of Law.

As an undergraduate, Shawna became involved in the college’s Mock Trial program.  She competeed in the American Mock Trial Association competition and was awarded the All Region Attorney Award.  As a law student, Shawna has continued to excel in the courtroom.  In her first year of law school, Shawna started a mock trial program at the University of Illinois for first year students. While participating in both Trial Advocacy and Advanced Trial Advocacy courses, Shawna was nominated for the Paul Lisnek Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. She also competed in the internal Frederick Green Constitutional moot court competition where she secured a spot on the Invitational team and was named Executive Editor. In her third year of law school, Shawna plans to coach undergraduate mock trial teams.

Trial Advocacy Scholarship

The 2013 cycle begins January 2013.  This scholarship is open to all AAJ Law Student Members who are entering their second or third-year of law school. A $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who best:

1.    demonstrates a commitment to AAJ and dedication to its mission through extensive
       involvement in AAJ student chapter activities;
2.    expresses a desire to represent victims;
3.    exhibits an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy;
4.    shows a financial need for the scholarship.

Applications must include the following:

•    A resumé
•    A statement of financial need
•    A 500-word essay on how you meet the criteria
•   Up to three (3) recommendations from a faculty adviser, trial advocacy professor, dean, AAJ
     member, or trial lawyer; and
•    A completed form verifying your student status.

Every applicant must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
