AAJ Response to House Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing: “Excessive Litigation's Impact on America's Global Competitiveness”
Washington, DC—The following is a statement from American Association for Justice (AAJ) President Mary Alice McLarty:
“Today’s hearing is about one thing – helping corporations evade accountability when their products injure and kill Americans.
“Blitz USA knew its product was killing and injuring children, knew it would cost only 4-cents to fix it, and still did nothing about it. Instead, they chose to put profits over American lives and jobs.
“Blitz’ bankruptcy was completely avoidable and a result of the same corporate mismanagement and greed that led to countless lives being lost.
“Safe products and American jobs are not mutually exclusive. Manufacturing safe products is not only in the best interest of consumers, but also businesses.”
As the world's largest trial bar, the American Association for Justice (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) works to make sure people have a fair chance to receive justice through the legal system when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others—even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.
