AAJ's Case Workshop Program
September 11-14, 2008, Charlotte, NC

Case Workshop Home | Agenda & CLE | Faculty

About The Program

The Case Workshop Program offers attendees the opportunity to learn about different types of focus groups and get hands-on experience conducting focus groups in their own cases. You’ll bring an active case of your own and have it analyzed by some of the country’s leading lawyers and trial consultants, and then present it to focus groups—before it goes to trial. Only AAJ Education offers CLE programs with these benefits. The majority of the time is spent conducting focus groups and synthesizing the feedback—all of which is videotaped for you to take home.

Exclusively created for AAJ Regular, Sustaining, Life, and President's Club members only. The civil justice system, trial by jury, and the rights of Americans who have been injured through no fault of their own continue to be under attack. It is more important than ever that you prepare yourself to fight back for your clients against the misinformation and tort "reform" campaigns. Begin with AAJ's Case Workshop Program. You will:

  • Explore key issues in your case
  • Pinpoint the strengths of your strategy
  • Expose potential weaknesses
  • Develop your story

The Focus Group Members

We screen and recruit hundreds of members of the community from several different sources to make up your focus groups. We will provide as diverse a group as possible with respect to occupation, gender, ethnic origin, political affiliation, and age.

Before you leave Charlotte, you’ll understand:

  • How to talk and listen to jurors
  • The weaknesses in your case—and how to eliminate them
  • What strategies the opposition may use—and your best responses
  • How to develop themes and what themes to use in your case
  • How to present cases to focus groups—and what to do with the results

Note: Before the program you will be asked to provide a case summary for faculty review including specific case information such as the stage of the case, the plaintiff's and defendant's legal theories and best arguments to prevail, and what you want to get out of the focus groups. You should plan to bring two key exhibits with you for professional analysis and critique on site.
