The Partnership in Advocacy Program
The Partnership in Advocacy Program, sponsored by the Robert
L. Habush AAJ Endowment and Philip F. Maher & Associates, links
America's law schools and an annual selection of their law students
with AAJ at its Annual Convention each summer. Upon selection, each
student is assigned an AAJ mentor. Convention registration fees for
the law students are waived and complimentary tickets provided for
convention-wide social functions. Prominent alumni are given the opportunity
to help underwrite the students' costs, including travel and hotel
accommodations. The goal of AAJ's Partnership in Advocacy Program
is to expose law students to the American jury system and the practice
of law and to provide networking opportunities with talented lawyers
from across the country.
Here's How it Works:
- The Dean, trial advocacy professors, and/or independent study
committee of each participating law school will select one second-year
student to participate in the AAJ Annual Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (July 12-16, 2008). The deadline for student applications
is May 30, 2008.
- With the guidance of the law school faculty member, each student
will select a topic upon which to write a publishable paper and
will attend the appropriate convention sessions and workshops. The
papers will be submitted to AAJ possible publication.
- Pending approval by each school's Dean, law students who complete
the requirements will receive academic credit for independent study.
- Convention registration fees for the law students will be waived
and complimentary tickets will be provided for convention-wide social
functions. Based on need, funds are available to cover costs for
the student's lodging, and a partial reimbursement may be available
to cover the cost of the student's airfare.
