Download a printable version of this chart

  • The American Medical Association Claims That Some States Are In Full-Blown Crisis

  • The Rate Of Increase In Crisis and Non-Crisis States Last Year Was Virtually Identical

  • The AMA¡¦s Classification Is Political And Not Based Upon Any Concrete Objective Criteria

Derived from data provided by Medical Liability Monitor (Oct 2004) A state’s average premium increase is calculated as the unweighted mean value of premium increases for all companies for which data is provided across all regions. The AMA does not list any objective criteria for its classification of crisis states, but it's "okay" states all meet the AMA's political objectives in terms of existence of severe caps on non-economic damages.
