Association of Trial Lawyers of America Elects Lewis S. Mike
Eidson President

Eidson, Jr., one of the nations top litigators in the fields
of product safety and aviation law, has been elected to a one-year
term as president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA),
the worlds largest trial bar.
Eidson, a partner in the Coral Gables, Florida, law firm of Colson
Hicks Eidson, was elevated to the post Wednesday during ATLAs
60th annual convention in Seattle, Washington. He succeeds Ken Suggs,
of Columbia, South Carolina
Its an honor to serve as president of a great organization
willing to confront powerful interests in the publics behalf,
Eidson said. Leveling the playing field for those who are injured
through no fault of their own is part of our greater responsibility
to ensure that every American has access to justice.
With about 65,000 members worldwide, ATLA promotes justice and fairness
for injured persons, defends the constitutional right to trial by
jury and strengthens the civil justice system through education and
disclosure of information critical to public health and safety. The
association provides lawyers with the information and professional
assistance they need to serve clients successfully and protect the
democratic values of the civil justice system.
ATLA is dedicated to preserving the civil justice system and making
sure that powerful special interests are held accountable when they
engage in misconduct or negligence.
"ATLA is moving forward on many levels and I'm very pleased
that someone with the ability and integrity of Mike Eidson is going
to be leading us for the next year,'' said Ken Suggs, the association's
outgoing president.
Eidson served as lead counsel in some of the biggest automobile liability
cases in the nations judicial history, including the Firestone/Ford
tire tread separation case and litigation involving the Chrysler Minivan.
In 1975, Eidson and two of his partners prevailed in the first case
where it was determined Ford continued manufacturing the Pinto even
though the company knew it had a high probability of exploding on
rear impact.
Eidson has handled hundreds of product liability cases nationwide.
He received his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina
in 1968 and his law degree from Emory University Law School in 1971.
He also attended Warwick University in Coventry, England.
In addition to his professional activities, Eidson serves as president
of the Miami City Ballet and is active in many cultural and charitable
organizations in South Florida.
Also elected were: Kathleen Flynn Peterson, President-Elect; Les
Weisbrod, Vice President; Anthony Tarricone, Secretary; C. Gibson
Vance, Treasurer; and Gary Paul, Parliamentarian.
