Washington, DC – This afternoon President George W. Bush made the following comments in his address about climate change:
"Decisions with such far-reaching impact should not be left to unelected regulators and judges. Such decisions should be debated openly and made by the elected representatives of the people they affect. The American people deserve an honest assessment of the costs, benefits and feasibility of any proposed solution."
The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Jon Haber:
"We agree with the President that ‘decisions with far-reaching impact should not be left to unelected regulators." Perhaps he needs a reminder that during his Administration, he has allowed 'unelected regulators' inside seven federal agencies create over 30 rules that preempt state law.
"Preemption is a 'get out of jail free card' for corporations that make unsafe products and leave injured people with no legal recourse.
"Here’s an inconvenient truth: the President cherry-picks opportunities when laws should apply to fit his agenda."
