Statement by Kathleen Flynn Peterson
on the Jamie Leigh Jones Case

January 8, 2008 (Washington, DC)— The Defense Department Inspector General’s action today declining to investigate the case of former Halliburton/KBR employee Jamie Leigh Jones smacks of a conspiracy to keep the truth locked away in a proverbial shipping container--just as she was.

We hope the Justice Department concludes their investigation swiftly, but Jamie Lee Jones also deserves justice in a court of law against the multinational corporation who mistreated her. Halliburton/KBR are attempting to further stonewall Jamie’s efforts to seek justice by attempting to force her to submit to a binding, secret, non-appealable arbitration, based upon a clause which was placed in her employment contract that Halliburton/KBR required her to sign in order to get the job.

Congress needs to pass the Arbitration Fairness Act of 2007 so that Americans like Jamie Lee Jones will have their day in court and our civil justice system will be stronger
