Cecelia Prewett Joins American Association for Justice in Key Role

Former Spokesperson for AARP,
Rahm Emanuel Joins AAJ to Manage Communications

January 14, 2008 (Washington, DC)—The American Association for Justice (AAJ) has appointed Cecelia Prewett to the newly created position of Vice President, Strategic Communications. Prewett will manage the day-to-day operations of the War Room and will be AAJ’s chief communications strategist. Prewett joins the association as a seasoned media relations professional with over a decade of experience in political communications, media relations and journalism.

“Cecelia Prewett’s political and media experience will be a huge asset in our Fight for Justice Campaign,” said Jon Haber, CEO of the American Association for Justice. “She will continue our work to protect and strengthen our civil justice system.”

Most recently, Prewett was a senior spokesperson for AARP, focusing on increasing AARP’s visibility and positioning that organization on health and financial security issues. Cecelia spent seven years on Capitol Hill as communications director for U.S. Representatives Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), and Bob Filner (D-CA), where she earned an outstanding record of media placements in the nation’s largest media markets. She also served as senior communication manager for Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, supervising the communication managers in 23 separate state government agencies. Prewett has also handled issue campaigns for the National Environmental Trust, and has worked on several political campaigns.

A native of Tennessee, Prewett earned her Masters in Political Management from The George Washington University in Washington, DC, and her undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Tennessee.
