I primarly handle cases dealing with: Securities Litigation.

Number of years in the paralegal profession: 17 years.

Employer: Rumberger, Kirk, & Caldwell, P.C.

Education: Paralegal degree from National School of Paralegal Studies, BS in Criminal Justice Administration; Continuous CLE for NALA advanced certification.

Why

Pluses/Challenges of paralegal profession:
Pluses: The feeling of winning for your client. Challenges: Workload and staying abreast of rapidly changing laws.

Core Skills Needed:
Patience, attention to detail, availability, and my personal favorite, clairvoyance. Also need the ability to organize and prioritize.

Advice to Fellow Paralegals:
Love what you do and and always try to remember to keep your composure under pressure.

How

Career Path to Current Position:
Worked for attorneys while going to college and was talked into changing my major to paralegal studies by one of the attorneys.

Influences and Mentors:
I love a good suspense movie so working my way through a case not knowing the outcome for a while gives me great anticipation. Not to mention I have a few good mentors I work with on a daily basis.

Professional Affiliations and Activities:
Certified Legal Assistant with NALA; Alabama Association of Paralegals and American Association for Justice.

Recent Professional Publications: Former publications editor for AAPi.

Memorable Career Moment: A large verdict for a client who had passed away while waiting for trial and the remaining family were there for the verdict.

Interests: Writing, walking and raising two teenagers.
