House Passes Bill to Grant Handout to Asbestos Corporations
Bill Delays and Denys Justice for Asbestos Victims
Washington, DC—The following is a statement from American Association for Justice President Burton LeBlanc in response to the passage of H.R. 982 by the U.S. House of Representatives:
“Asbestos continues to kill 10,000 Americans every year. Instead of working to protect Americans from the dangers of asbestos, the U.S. House of Representatives has passed an unnecessary and offensive bill that would allow the asbestos industry to delay and deny justice for dying asbestos victims.
“It is insulting that Congress is helping the same corporations that hid the dangers of asbestos from the public for decades evade being held accountable for killing Americans. Asbestos is still legal and lethal in the United States and the only thing Congress should focus on is banning this toxin and preventing the death of more Americans.”
