AAJ Statement on Jamie Leigh Jones Forced Arbitration Case
The following is a statement from American Association for Justice President Anthony Tarricone on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in favor of Jamie Leigh Jones against KBR / Halliburton:
Washington, DC—“Jamie has been through a terrible ordeal, but finally, she will have her day in court. Her case underscores how powerful corporations use forced arbitrations to evade accountability, even in the most egregious of circumstances.
“Jamie’s case is rare: she may have an opportunity to see the inside of a courtroom, although it took nearly three years to get there. Countless others are forced into arbitration and never have an opportunity to seek justice.
“It is critical that Congress pass the Arbitration Fairness Act, so corporations will no longer be able to stack the deck against everyday Americans and hide behind one-sided forced arbitration proceedings.”
