HMO nurses' failure to monitor newborn leads to permanent brain damage

The child, who was healthy at birth, and his mother claimed that HMO nurses failed to properly assess and monitor him. They alleged that the nurses should have acted on his inability to breast feed effectively and notified a physician about his excessive weight loss. Villareal v. Kaiser Found. Hosps.
