The plaintiff, who suffered a brachial plexus injury, alleged Toyota Motor Corp. negligently repaired the van she rented from a car sharing organization. Among other things, suit alleged the defendant’s service department failed to detect damage to one of the vehicle’s ball joints prior to the accident. The jury awarded $15.7 million. Lewis v.
