AAJ Response to House E&C Committee Approval of H.R. 5

Washington, DCThe following is a statement from American Association for Justice (AAJ) President Gibson Vance in response to the House Energy and Commerce Committee approving H.R. 5:

“This extreme bill is no solution to the real problems facing America’s health care system today, most importantly the 98,000 people that die every year from preventable medical errors.  By handing out immunity to negligent healthcare providers, this bill removes critical incentives to improve safety and will leave even more patients at risk.  Instead of protecting wrongdoers and limiting the rights of injured patients, Congress should put more important priorities, like patient safety, first.”

As the world's largest trial bar, the American Association for Justice (formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America) works to make sure people have a fair chance to receive justice through the legal system when they are injured by the negligence or misconduct of others—even when it means taking on the most powerful corporations.
