Unbeknownst to drivers of a variety of General Motors manufactured automobiles, a design defect can cause the ignition key to inadvertently slip from the “on” or “run” position to the “off” or “accessory” position without warning. When it does so, not only does the vehicle’s motor shut off, but the vehicle also loses power steering, power brakes, and the safety protections of the airbag, causing drivers to lose control and crash. These failures have led to serious injuries and, worse yet, at least twelve deaths that GM, to date, has confirmed were caused by this defect. Other reports indicate that there have been many more injuries and deaths caused by this defect.
This Litigation Group will serve as a venue for AAJ members to share information and knowledge about the ongoing GM vehicle class action and personal injury cases, and provide an educational forum to facilitate the exchange of ideas. Publically available materials or analyses such as operative complaints and MDL filings will be provided to members. This Litigation Group will also hold education forums and meetings for members to discuss current cases and exchange information.
