We extend to you an invitation to participate in AAJ’s first annual Minority Caucus Lobby Day, scheduled for March 10–11 in our nation’s capitol, Washington, DC.  Established in 1992, the Minority Caucus is responsible for recommending and developing educational opportunities, networking programs, and other activities of special interest to AAJ members of color. AAJ’s Minority Caucus helps to develop programs to stimulate minority membership and participation in leadership roles. It also works on joint programs with other AAJ Sections and special interest groups.

More than a year ago we were all witness to the historic election of Barack Obama as our first African-American President; and unlike any other moment in time minority Members of Congress wield unprecedented influence and power. There are currently two Hispanic Members of Congress serving as Committee Chairs, in addition to eleven sub-committee Chairs. Likewise there are four African-American Members of Congress who Chair full committees, and eighteen subcommittee Chairs.

President Obama’s extraordinary campaign inspired the passions and participation of millions of first-time voters. We urge you to join us in Washington, DC using the passion and zeal that you use everyday on behalf of your clients to make AAJ’s first Minority Caucus Lobby Day a successful undertaking.

In addition to meetings with Members of Congress and their staff, you will be treated to a reception at the brand new Capitol Visitor Center, as well as a breakfast with special guest speaker to be announced at a later date. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to connect with your Member of Congress and demonstrate the diversity of AAJ. I hope you can join us for what will be a great experience.
