Civil Rights

The Civil Rights Section brings together attorneys with wide-ranging experiences and interests to preserve constitutional rights and vindicate the rights of individuals whose civil rights have been violated. Members of the Section collaborate on innovative trial strategies, notify each other of recent developments in civil rights law, and forge new areas of recovery for victims of civil rights violations. Section members’ civil rights practice areas are diverse, and include police misconduct cases (such as excessive force and false arrest cases), malicious prosecution cases, anti-bullying cases, First Amendment retaliation cases, cases involving the right to freely associate, political oppression cases, state-created danger cases, prisoners' rights cases, and all other types of cases involving governmental oppression and discrimination under federal and state anti-discrimination statutes. We encourage all AAJ members who have an interest in fighting for the preservation of our nation’s civil rights to join the Section.
