Our Origins and History

From the National Association of Claimants’ Compensation Attorneys formed Portland, Oregon in 1946 to the present-day American Association for Justice headquarted in Washington, DC, AAJ's origins and history inform our every day.

TLC: Trial Lawyers Care

Trial lawyers moved swiftly to help those whose lives were devastated by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Through the Trial Lawyers Care program, more than 1,000 volunteer attorneys provided pro bono legal services to victims who filed claims with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. TLC recently completed its work and closed its doors, leaving a legacy of lives rebuilt, if not fully restored.
