Negligent intubation
January/February 2022Doe, a twin who was born at 34 weeks gestation, had difficulty breathing shortly after his birth. During four intubation attempts performed when he was 9 hours old, he suffered a torn vocal cord and other injuries to his airway. He required a tracheotomy and spent 21 months in the hospital.
Doe and his parents filed suit against the University of Washington Medical Center, the University of Washington, and the state of Washington, alleging negligent intubation.
The jury awarded $6 million.
