AAJ Publication Recognized for Editorial Excellence

Washington, DC -- Trial magazine—the flagship publication of the American Association for Justice (AAJ) — was recently awarded a prestigious EXCEL Award for editorial excellence from Association Media & Publishing. The award was given for in-depth coverage by Trial News editors on topics of interest to trial lawyers, professors, judges, and the legal community.
Trial News is the twice-monthly online supplement to Trial magazine, and Association Media & Publishing recognized the April 20, 2017, edition for the EXCEL Award. The EXCEL Awards is the largest award program that exclusively recognizes excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing, and communications.
“Trial magazine and Trial News continue to win editorial awards because AAJ Publications is committed to publishing legal stories of the highest quality that serve as a resource to plaintiff attorneys and help them stay up to date in their practices,” said Jennifer Adams, editor in chief of Trial magazine and senior director of publications and education at AAJ.
The top story in the award-winning edition of Trial News was written by associate editor Kate Halloran. She reported on a Ninth Circuit ruling that California courts could not exercise jurisdiction over a foreign corporation in a case involving design defect claims against its domestic subsidiary.
Another story, written by associate editor Diane Zhang, covered a federal court ruling greenlighting claims against the FBI stemming from the Charleston, S.C., church shooting case. The survivors and victims’ families alleged that the bureau negligently administered its National Instant Criminal Background Check System, allowing the gunman to purchase the gun he used to kill nine black parishioners in a race-motivated hate crime.
