Verdict for baby powder user’s malignant mesothelioma

September 10, 2024

Kyung Lee was exposed to Johnson’s Baby Powder for 36 years. Lee, 49, now suffers from malignant mesothelioma, which has necessitated immunotherapy and numerous surgeries and procedures.

Lee and her husband sued Johnson & Johnson and subsidiary LLT Management LLC, alleging that although Johnson & Johnson knew that its baby powder contained asbestos and that this posed a deadly cancer risk, it continued to sell the product and advertised it as “pure.”

The plaintiffs waived economic damages.

The jury awarded $260 million, apportioning liability at 99.9% to Johnson & Johnson and .1% to LLT Management.
