Failure to properly instruct ‘bubble soccer’ participants

February 2020

Salvador Reyes Quezada, a high school senior and soccer player, was participating in a field day event at school. One of the activities was “bubble soccer,” a game in which participants play soccer while wearing giant inflatable bubbles. During the game, Reyes Quezada collided with another student and suffered a skull fracture and brain damage. His medical expenses totaled more than $189,700.

Reyes Quezada sued Game Truck Georgia, LLC, alleging it failed to warn participants of the dangers of playing bubble soccer, properly instruct them on the proper use of the soccer bubbles, and provide a safe environment for game participants.

The defense argued the plaintiff had ignored safety instructions and assumed the risk.

The jury awarded $5 million, finding the plaintiff 7% at fault.
