Sexual abuse of preteen

March 2020

Doe, who was 11 at the time, frequently spent the night at her friend’s house. During these visits, the friend’s father, Roy Pompa, administered sedatives to and sexually abused Doe. Pompa was later arrested, and tapes were found showing him engaging in sexual acts with young girls, including Doe.

Now 26, Doe has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and has a history of heavy drug use and attempted suicide. She requires counseling and has been unable to maintain a job. Pompa was convicted of rape.

Doe sued Pompa, alleging sexual exploitation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Suit also alleged that Pompa’s wife was liable for his actions because she knew or should have known about the sexual misconduct occurring in her home.

The jury awarded $134 million, including $100 million in punitive damages.
