Allegedly impaired motorist strikes stopped vehicle, killing driver

April 2024

Charles Mabie, 52, was stopped at a traffic light in his sedan when Somona Anderson—who allegedly consumed PCP that day—rear-ended Mabie’s vehicle at a high rate of speed. Mabie suffered fatal injuries. He is survived by his wife and two minor children, one of whom was in the sedan at the time of the crash. Anderson pleaded guilty to criminal charges.

Mabie’s wife sued Anderson, alleging general negligence. The plaintiff did not claim lost income. The defense admitted liability.

The jury awarded $40 million.
