Failure to properly address alleged bullying

August 2024

Mallory Grossman, a gymnast and sixth-grade student at Copeland Middle School, was the target of alleged bullying by other students in her grade. The bullying allegedly included texts and social media posts telling her to kill herself. Grossman’s parents had several meetings with the school about the issue.

Grossman subsequently died by suicide.

Her parents sued the school district, alleging failure to stop ongoing bullying.

The defendant settled for $9.1 million. Grossman’s parents started the nonprofit Mallory’s Army, which is devoted to educating parents and school districts about the dangers and prevention of bullying.
