Failure to notify tenants of plumbing work

August 22, 2024

While Doe, 51, was taking a shower in her basement apartment, a licensed plumber was working in the utility room located behind the shower. The plumber allegedly over-pressurized a hot water boiler, which caused the system to explode. Hot water blasted through the shower wall, spraying Doe. She suffered burns to her calf, necessitating treatment at a burn center. She now has residual scarring.

Doe sued the plumber, alleging failure to notify residents that work was being performed on the boiler.

The parties settled for $195,000.
