Gender, race harassment

January 31, 2019

Krystyana Brame, 28, worked as a program liaison for the Seattle Public Schools Athletic Department. Eric McCurdy, executive director of athletics for the school system, began behaving in a discriminatory and harassing manner toward Brame, including using offensive language, making sexist remarks, and telling her that her job was in jeopardy. For example, among other things, McCurdy referred to Brame as the “fat white girl.”

Brame filed a written complaint with the district but later resigned from her district position, at which she had earned approximately $60,000 annually.

Brame claimed that the district was liable for race and gender harassment.

The parties settled before suit was filed for $500,000.

Citation: Brame v. Seattle Pub. Schs., settled before filing, Nov. 1, 2018.

Claimant counsel: AAJ member Scott C. Blankenship and Rick Goldsworthy, both of Seattle.
