3M Combat Earplugs

3M’s dual-ended Combat Arms™ version 2 (“CAEv.2”) earplugs were standard issue in certain branches of the U.S. military during foreign conflicts between approximately 2003-2015. 3M sold the dual-ended Combat Arms™ version 2 (“CAEv.2”) earplugs to the U.S. military without disclosing defects that hampered the effectiveness of the hearing protection device. Specifically, 3M and its predecessor Aearo Technologies, Inc., knew that due to certain defects in the design of the plugs, proper insertion required the wearer to fold back the flanges of the opposite side from insertion, but did not adequately instruct wearers of this requirement. Because of these known defects, thousands of men and women who have fought for our country now suffer drastic hearing loss and tinnitus.

The 3M Combat Earplugs Litigation Group was formed in 2019.
