Police Misconduct
The AAJ Police Misconduct Litigation Group concentrates on the misconduct and abuse of power by police officers employed by cities, counties, states, and the federal government. This misconduct and abuse involve violations of fundamental rights protected by the United States and state constitutions, which are commonly prosecuted by the victims against the officers and the municipalities that employ them under 42 USC § 1983 and applicable state laws. The Litigation Group focuses particularly on excessive use of force, false arrest, and false imprisonment claims. Group members network and discuss legal cases and strategies on the Group’s list server and at regular meetings, including AAJ Conventions and Education seminars. The Police Misconduct Litigation Group Document Library is another member benefit, where group members can search for court documents, briefs, depositions, and more.

- Meetings: The Group meets at AAJ Annual and Winter conventions.
