Harry M. Philo Award

Navan Ward has devoted himself to seeking justice for victims and ensuring that what happened to them does not happen to anyone else. And while he has amassed an impressive list of awards and recognitions for his work as a plaintiff trial lawyer, he is most passionate about paying it forward.
Navan helps law students, new lawyers, and lawyers new to his practice areas succeed. He is fiercely dedicated to his clients, he takes care of his family, and he always shows up for AAJ when we need him.
When he served as AAJ President (2021-22), Navan’s collaborative leadership brought people together; he emphasized common ground and inspired us with his deliberative and thoughtful approach. He thinks, focuses, and acts.
His practice is about making the world a safer place when pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers cut corners. For more than two decades of that work—and through his advocacy on the Hill—he has advanced the safety and protection of American consumers.

Harry M. Philo
Harry Philo was a exemplary trial lawyer, but his legacy extends well beyond the courtroom. His philosophy was simple--the law is never settled until it is right, it is never right until it is just, and it is never just until it serves society to the fullest. He challenged trial lawyers to forge a safer society by exposing corporate greed and dangerous products and reminded trial lawyers that they are the ones on the side of people—not banks, insurance companies, or Fortune 500 companies. AAJ is honored to regularly recognize an outstanding trial lawyer who share Harry's beliefs and shows a commitment, through his or her dedication to their clients and society as a whole, to the principles Harry lived by.
