AAJ Statement on Sen. McConnell’s COVID-19 Corporate Immunity Bill

September 10,2020

Washington, DC— The following is a statement from American Association for Justice (AAJ) CEO Linda Lipsen regarding the Senate vote on the “skinny” coronavirus stimulus bill:

“Sen. McConnell and the U.S. Chamber, which crafted this bill, view 190,000 dead Americans not as a crisis that should prioritize health and safety, but as an opportunity to give corporations immunity when they expose their workers and consumers to COVID-19. With millions of Americans unemployed and small businesses facing economic ruin, it is disgraceful that Sen. McConnell’s main priority is to eliminate the rights of workers and consumers.

“This radical proposal will increase infection rates and prolong the pandemic because corporations will know they can cut corners and face no accountability for putting our health and safety at risk. Congress ought to pass a bill with enforceable, science-based standards and send it to the President as soon as possible -- it’s a matter of life and death.”
