AAJ Statement on Passage of Bill to Reform Toxic Substances Control Act in the U.S. Senate
June 07,2016Washington, DC— The following is a statement from American Association for Justice CEO Linda Lipsen on today’s passage of the “Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act” [H.R. 2576] in the U.S. Senate, which will reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) of 1976. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives on May 24, 2016.
“The American Association for Justice commends the efforts of Congress to reform TSCA to better protect against dangerous chemicals that pose significant and often deadly risks to human health and the environment. This compromise marks a significant improvement over our current federal chemical regulatory system, and we urge the President to swiftly sign this measure into law.
“As an association of advocates for workers, consumers, and families harmed by toxic chemicals, we support this effort to reform our broken federal chemical regulatory system while allowing states to act to protect their citizens from dangerous toxic chemicals, and ensuring that Americans can hold corporations accountable when their products cause harm.“
