Law Students to Compete in Student Trial Advocacy Competition, The Nation's Premier Mock Trial Tournament
Event is Unique Opportunity for Future Lawyers to Hone Trial Skills
February 23,2016Washington, DC—The Student Trial Advocacy Competition (STAC), sponsored by the American Association for Justice (AAJ), will hold its annual nationwide mock trial regional competitions in 14 sites across the country March 10 to 13, followed by the national finals in New Orleans March 31 to April 3.
The Student Trial Advocacy Competition is an opportunity for law students to develop and practice their trial advocacy skills before distinguished members of the bar and bench. Participants on four-member teams are judged on their skills in case preparation, opening statements, use of facts, the examination of lay and expert witnesses, and closing arguments.
Sixteen teams compete in each regional competition; the top team from each region advances to the national finals.
The regional competitions are in Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Houston, TX; Louisville, KY; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Omaha, NE; Raleigh, NC; Santa Monica, CA; Seattle, WA; Tuscaloosa, AL; and Washington, D.C.
“We’re proud to give the next generation of lawyers a unique opportunity to hone their professional skills,” said Larry Tawwater, AAJ President. “This event proves fun for the law students who compete and for the lawyers who volunteer to judge and see bright young minds in action.”
AAJ is seeking help from the legal community in judging STAC. The competition relies on attorneys to donate time and expertise at the regional and national competitions. Attorneys interested in serving as a judge for STAC may sign up at www.justice.org/JudgeForSTAC or email STAC@justice.org.
