Legislation Advanced by House Committee Fails to Protect Children Online
March 05,2026WASHINGTON, DC—American Association for Justice (AAJ) CEO Linda Lipsen issued the following statement after the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted to advance H.R. 7757, the KIDS Act:
“Today, House lawmakers chose to advance legislation that would protect billion-dollar tech companies instead of our nation’s children. The sweeping preemption in this bill would block states from enacting urgently needed reforms and take away parents’ rights to seek justice when their children have been targeted and manipulated online.
“In the Senate, there is bipartisan legislation with 75 cosponsors and broad support. But instead of using this moment to enact real change, the House majority shamefully chose to abandon bipartisanship and cave to Big Tech. I urge our Representatives to reject any effort to bring this bill to the House floor.”
