Washington, D.C. -- Trial magazine—the flagship publication of the American Association for Justice—recently received three prestigious EXCEL awards from the Association of Media & Publishing. EXCEL is the largest award program that exclusively recognizes excellence and leadership in nonprofit association media, publishing, marketing, and communications.

In the highly competitive category for single topic issue for magazines, Trial received a bronze award for Stronger Together, its September 2020 issue on civil rights, which included articles on handling police misconduct cases, a Q&A with civil rights attorney Ben Crump, and coverage of recent SCOTUS decisions.

In AM&P’s newest category, diversity and inclusion initiatives, Trial’s Hear Our Voices received a silver award for campaigns on diversity and inclusion. Hear Our Voices a concept proposed by AAJ President-elect Navan Ward —debuted in the September 2020 civil rights issue and features the powerful stories of minority trial lawyers and their experiences with adversity and overcoming challenges.

Trial News, the online supplement to Trial magazine, received a silver award for editorial excellence in digital newsletters for its May 21, 2020, issue. The top story reported on a national poll finding that a majority of voters across the political spectrum opposed granting businesses immunity from lawsuits arising from COVID-19.

“For many years, Trial magazine has highlighted the most pressing and important legal issues for AAJ’s members, who fight each day in pursuit of justice for their clients,” said Jennifer Adams, editor in chief of Trial magazine. “These awards are a testament to the hard work of our team of editors and writers and their dedication to telling the stories that matter the most to trial lawyers across America.”
