PCB exposure sickens children at Washington school
November 8, 2022The Sky Valley Education Center in Monroe, Wash., had leaking polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)-containing light ballasts and PCB caulking, resulting in PCB exposure for students, teachers, and others. Seven of the children who suffered this chronic exposure developed neuropsychological, endocrinal, dermatological, and reproductive problems.
The seven children and three of their mothers sued Pharmacia LLC, which produced and promoted PCBs, alleging that the defendant had supplied a product that was not reasonably safe in design and construction and failed to provide adequate warnings.
The jury awarded $275 million.
