Failure to provide safe component parts for refrigerator

October 10, 2023

Christian Vlot and Lynn Bierling purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator, model number WRV986FDEM, from C.K. Seidman, Inc. Approximately two months after it was installed, the refrigerator leaked, causing extensive damage throughout Vlot and Bierling’s newly renovated kitchen.

They sued C.K. Seidman, Inc., and Whirlpool Corp., alleging strict liability, negligence, and breach of express and implied warranties. The plaintiffs asserted that the defendants failed to design the appliance’s freezer door handle and fill valve in a safe condition and failed to provide safe component parts for the refrigerator.

After an Assessment of Damages hearing, the court awarded more than $20,900 against C.K. Seidman, Inc.

Citation: Vlot v. Whirlpool Corp., No. 200700393 (Pa. Ct. Com. Pl. Phila. Cnty. May 26, 2023).

Plaintiff counsel: Joseph A. Zenstein, Philadelphia.
