Defective design, fraud

Lisa Morris smoked one to two packs of cigarettes per day, including Marlboro and Basic brands. She continued her smoking habit for 46 years and was diagnosed as having metastatic lung disease, which necessitated various treatments, including immunotherapy. She later died of her disease at age 59. She is survived by her husband and two children.

Morris’s husband, individually and on her behalf, sued Philip Morris USA Inc., among others, alleging defective design, negligence, civil conspiracy, fraud, misrepresentation, and violation of state consumer protection law.

The parties settled for an undisclosed amount.
