Negligent patient transfer
September/October 2020Doe, a dialysis patient, was brought from her dialysis appointment to a medical transport vehicle that was scheduled to take her home. While two technicians were transferring Doe from one stretcher to another, they dropped her. Doe suffered a fractured left knee and a refractured left hip. She underwent emergency knee surgery but was not a candidate for additional hip surgery. Doe subsequently died of her hip injuries.
Suit against the transportation company alleged that its technicians had negligently performed the transfer by picking up Doe’s arms but neglecting to also pick up her legs, leading to the fall.
The parties settled for $425,000.
