Negligent misplacement of feeding tube
February 23, 2021While Doe was hospitalized after suffering a mild stroke, a physician allegedly placed a feeding tube into Doe’s stomach. The tube dislodged, allegedly prompting nursing staff to replace it. Later, attending nurses allegedly initiated feeding Doe, who began to gasp for air. It was then determined that the feeding tube had been inserted into Doe’s lung. As a result, he developed pneumonia and sepsis, which led to his death.
Doe’s spouse brought a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital, alleging that its nursing staff had negligently misplaced the feeding tube into Doe’s lung, puncturing it.
The parties settled confidentially.
