Negligent positioning of patient during prostate surgery
January/February 2021Doe, 57, underwent a robotic prostatectomy. During the nearly seven-hour procedure, he was placed in the Trendelenburg position with his head down and feet up. In the recovery room, he complained of severe pain in his calves and was later diagnosed as having suffered a crush injury during surgery. As a result, Doe developed chronic regional pain syndrome, which has significantly affected his life, including preventing him from continuing his job as a farm worker.
Doe filed suit, alleging that the surgeon negligently positioned and padded him during the lengthy surgery.
The plaintiff and defendant reached a settlement before trial for $950,000.
