Negligent patient transfer

January/February 2022

Doe, 77, who had a history of stroke and left-sided weakness, was admitted to a hospital to undergo a medical procedure. While transferring Doe to her room on a rolling stretcher, a hospital technician moved the stretcher to the left side of the hallway. Doe’s left foot hit the hallway wall, and she suffered fractures to her tibia and fibula. She received inpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy but was not able to bear weight on her left leg until her death from unrelated causes.

Suit against an undisclosed defendant alleged liability for Doe’s injuries.

The parties settled for $250,000.
