Abuse at Kiwanis group home

May 17, 2022

From 1984 to 1986, K.B. was sent to the Kiwanis Vocational Home (KVH), a foster care group home in Washington state. While there, he allegedly experienced physical abuse and neglect and sexual exploitation.

Now an adult, K.B. sued Kiwanis International and other Kiwanis entities, alleging negligence, gross negligence, agency liability, outrage, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Suit claimed that the defendants’ systemic failures led to his abuse and their failure to protect him. Moreover, the plaintiff charged, the defendants had ignored their duties to the children of KVH and created a danger that he would suffer sexual abuse and lifelong injuries.

The parties settled for approximately $712,500.
