Improper positioning of endotracheal tube
May/June 2022Doe, 50, underwent a laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and lysis of adhesions. Roe anesthesiologist later allegedly assessed Doe for a leaking endotracheal tube, inflating her tube with additional air. Doe suffered hypoxia and cardiac arrest approximately 15 minutes later. She was later diagnosed as having suffered a hypoxic brain injury, which has required her to live in a group home and receive 24-hour care.
Doe alleged that Roe failed to position her endotracheal tube correctly and failed to recognize this when he assessed her.
The plaintiff and defendant agreed to settle the case for $2.2 million.
