Failure to prevent falls
September 20, 2022Frank Scoz was admitted to Crestview Center. At the time, he had difficulty walking, muscle weakness, and unspecified dementia. He allegedly was documented as a fall risk. Over the next two months, Scoz suffered multiple falls. One of the falls resulted in a large hematoma on his right leg and an open area on his left elbow. Three days later, he allegedly was transferred to a hospital, where he was diagnosed as having severe anemia resulting from the hematoma. He died that day.
Scoz is survived by his wife and two children.
Scoz’s estate sued the facility’s owner and operator, alleging inadequate staffing, failure to implement fall prevention measures, and late diagnosis of Scoz’s injuries.
The parties settled for $90,000.
