Failure to prevent pressure sore
September/October 2022Ricky Glose, 54, was admitted to the Belle Haven Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center. At the time of his admission, he suffered from medical conditions and required assistance with his mobility. Approximately three months later, he developed a severe pressure sore on his right buttocks and sacrum. The pressure sore became infected, necessitating hospitalization, and his health began to decline. He died approximately 20 months later and is survived by his wife.
Glose’s estate filed suit against Belle Haven and its owner and operator, alleging claims for wrongful death and survival. The plaintiff alleged that, among other things, the defendants had failed to help Glose change his position in bed, which led to extended periods of lying in the same position.
The plaintiff also claimed that the defendants had failed to prevent the pressure sore or consult a wound care expert.
The parties settled for $225,000.
