Failure to prevent, treat pressure sores
November/December 2023After undergoing heart surgery, Sonia Godfrey was transferred from Temple University Hospital to Centennial Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. At the time of her admission, she was noted to have pressure ulcers on her sacrum and right thigh. She suffered an unwitnessed fall and was returned to the hospital. There, her pressure ulcers persisted, and she was subsequently admitted to a long-term care facility.
Suit on behalf of Godfrey’s estate against Centennial Healthcare, LLC, and Temple University Hospital, Inc., alleged failure to adopt protocols for fall prevention, failure to accurately assess Godrey’s wounds, and failure to timely diagnose and properly treat the pressure ulcers.
The parties settled for $175,000.
