Resident left alone in shower room
January/February 2024Doe, 64, was admitted to the Roe nursing home. At the time, she had a history of stroke and seizure disorder and was deemed to be cognitively impaired. Doe’s condition necessitated that she received extensive assistance with her daily living activities from one to two staff members due to her left-sided paralysis.
Nevertheless, nursing staff allegedly placed Doe in a shower chair, rolled her to the shower room, and left her alone. Doe was later found on the shower room floor next to the shower chair, reaching for soap that had fallen on the floor. She suffered a fractured left femur, which necessitated a 10-day hospitalization. Her injury was deemed inoperable.
Suit alleged professional negligence.
The parties reached a settlement for $315,000.
